Design Camp Las Vegas Market Campus

Hi Lori & Kelli!
Your event was outstanding and I’m in awe of you both as I can only imagine the logistics that went in to orchestrating an event of this magnitude. The speakers were fabulous and I was able to take away invaluable nuggets from each and every one of them! Your energy was contagious and I could feel how everyone in the room was instantly infused by that electricity.
Look forward to speaking with you soon!

Design Camp at LV market

August 3, 2014 Barefoot Musings

Its been such a fun and exciting week in the world of Interior Design on the west coast. This week I got to go to my first Design Camp at Las Vegas Summer Market. I’d heard a lot of good things about Design Camp and was excited to take part in this special event. If you are at all considering attending a future one, I encourage you to do so. You will not be disappointed.

Lori and Kelli getting the day started.

Kelli Ellis and Lori Dennis have put together something that the design community has needed for years! a two day event packed with educational and inspirational speakers all designed to take your practice to the next level. Nice work ladies! As someone who’s been practicing design for nearly, um, 20 years. (Yes, I said 20) I wasn’t sure what design camp could teach me. But to my surprise I was both educated and inspired. From Bill Indursky’s fun presentation on current design trends, to Susanne Salk’s industry insights into how to get work published, to the brilliant Adam Japko’s talk on social media and marketing.

Design camp is also an opportunity to meet and connect with hundreds of designer’s from all around the country as well as discover great new market introductions from some of our favorite brands like Orient Express, Noir, Made Goods, Interlude Home, Lexington, Global Views, Lamps Plus, and others, Scavenger hunts, games, giveaways, parties, and educational workshops. Priceless.

Rona and I at Orient Express. Great furniture. Great people.

I sincerely feel blessed to have been included and look forward to taking part in future Design Camps. You’re never too old to learn a new thing or two.

Thanks ladies!

Good times in Las Vegas

…[T]hank you Kelli and Lori for the opportunity to participate in this. You managed to create something that was epic but organized, professional but fun, and to generate a real sense of group camaraderie, which is so often the special sauce missing from a lot of these events. Well done! I miss Design Camp already. :, (
Our “a-ha” moment! Toto faucets for everyone!!
We had chills- So much fun!

Hello Kelli and Lori… I just wanted to take a moment while everything was fresh in my mind to tell you how inspired I was by this week. The speaker lineup was fantastic and I took copious notes the entire time. Some of my favorites were:

  • Bill Indursky, I won the web site development and can’t wait to get my site up and running.
  • Aaron Danzig on positioning your brand and point of differentiation
  • Roger Thomas’s incredible images and design process
  • Kimberley Seldon’s dynamic “Business of Design” presentation where I probably learned the most and YES bought her books
  • Katy Garrett’s Tech panel. I’m following up with Ross Barlett to learn more about his product and think I found my drawing solution.
  • Chris Kennedy’s passionate furniture presentation.
  • Phil Pallen’s humorous and hilariously funny approach to Twitter, and YES bought his book too.
The other amazing thing about this week were the amazing people in attendance and the sharing and networking that took place. This is a career change for me and I met some amazing people who gave me confidence in my abilities and have volunteered to be there offering their assistance if I have any questions or doubts. Our little round table group is even planning a weekly call to inspire each other.
Thank You again for a fantastic week. I look forward to the next Design Camp.

Thank you again for an amazing camp. Trisha and I were both blown away by how great this event was. Such a great group of engaged designers and the event itself was so well organized. Kudos to both you and Kelli!

Toto Neorest Toilet

We all love shopping for pillows and picking out paint colors, but when it comes to the nuts and bolts of practical design, it can seem like the necessary evil of the design process–We’re talking about shopping for toilets and hardware. But we’ve found a way to make shopping for a new showerhead as fun as shopping for a new down comforter, and as an added bonus: we found a way to feel conscientious while doing it. TOTO ( is a leading manufacturer of residential and commercial bathroom products including toilets, faucets, showers, lavatories, baths and accessories. They have been innovating products that help to make people’s lives cleaner, healthier, and more luxurious for over a century–it’s amazing it took us this long to discover them!

We absolutely love their new Neorest line, which includes the ultra-high efficiency Neorest 700H. Engineered to provide its user with unrivaled comfort, the intuitive Neorest 700H optimizes water use with either a 1.0 or 0.8 gallon flush. The ewater+ technology uses electrolyzed water to mist the bowl after each flush to reduce the need for harsh chemicals during cleaning. So not only does the Neorest 700H save water with each flush, it also helps to cut down on using harmful chemicals– great news for the environment and for our allergies!

TOTO’s new Aero Showers do something incredibly innovative– they use air injection technology to increase water volume by adding air into each water droplet. The result is the feeling of a full, luxurious shower while using less water than a standard shower.

TOTO plays a significant role in leading the sustainability charge in our industry. In fact, they go beyond just products to help ensure environmental responsibility across all their company activities. Employee recycling programs, optimized packaging size to reduce materials, and charging stations for electric cars are just a few of the ways they’re doing their part to ensure the health of our environment–We love their products and we love their business philosophy!

Barbara Cosgrove Nouveau Lamp

We’ve been noticing some new lamp trends recently, and we like what we are seeing!

First: The over-sized lamp that can take any room to the next level. It’s a highly innovative way of changing your room’s focal point and a fairly inexpensive way of updating a room. Barbara Cosgrove, identified by her ability to put a modern twist on the traditional lighting fixture, has a number of super cool over-sized pieces that we’ve seen beautifully installed in bedrooms and common spaces.

We’ve also noticed an increase in the client’s desire to customize their lamps, turning them into one of a kind works of art, or as Barbara Cosgrove might say, ” little sculptures everyone has in their home.” Barbara Cosgrove’s signature painted parchment shades can be painted any custom color. That way, the scale of design is confident, the look is classic, and will fit perfectly into your home.

Lastly but certainly not least, is the nouveau-traditional lamp–a fancy-schmansy, eclectic mix of old and new. These are Barbara Cosgrove’s specialty, something she has perfected over the years. Lamps may be the most common statue, but a Barbara Cosgrove Lamp is truly a work of art.

Tommy-Bahamas-Aviano Outdoor Patio Furniture

Things are really heating up around here and we are ridiculously ready for summer! We’ve got our favorite shades on, a glass of cucumber lemonade and music playing, it’s time to kick back and relax, my friends.

As you know, we are BIG on indoor / outdoor living, and we are seeing some great designs that are exciting this season.

Tommy Bahama Outdoor Furniture has taken woven wicker to a whole new level by bringing these typically indoor styles to the outdoors. This collection feels so fresh, the light and beachy feel, the fluid movement of the table base and these chair styles that I’ve loved so much for living rooms but have never seen for the patio. Nice job, Tommy!

Lamps Plus (Yes Lamps Plus has furniture!) has a great selection of outdoor pieces in various styles, including this play off the traditional outdoor wicker settee, giving it a more relaxed and modern feel with it’s shape, open weave and grey tones. We’ll take 2!

Jaipur offers up plenty of bright and colorful graphic indoor/outdoor rugs, pillows and poufs that we love to use in our projects. You can keep a neutral backdrop and change these out for a fresh look each season! It’s a great way to create a new look without breaking the bank.

Much to our delight, last fall we discovered that Made Goods now has outdoor furniture! Thank you! Thank you! Their pieces are so much fun and really make a space feel special.

If you want something straight out of a resort, Zuo Mod has the hot stuff you’re looking for. This Martinique daybed is regal, relaxing and a little exotic. Just our summer style!

we are constantly impressed by how many new and exciting things come to market each season and we are really looking forward to the next few months. Whether you come home inspired by your summer vacation or you want to create your own oasis at home, there are so many options out there. Let loose, have fun and let the summer fiestas begin!
